September 21, 2014 Parable of the Laborers

Humans have an innate sense of fairness and justice. The Parable of the Laborers portrays a story of two kinds of workers, the ones that actively pursued the work and the ones that were just found it by standing around. The parable reveals the Lord’s plans are not our plans, so why does the success of those that worked little seem to offend us? God makes his kingdom available to everyone, salvation is not handed out in pieces. It is there for the taking. God’s plans have a way of revealing them selves over time. We realize He is strengthening us in character and holiness when we live according to the Gospel.

September 14, 2014 The Feast of the Exhalation of the Holy Cross

Fr. David reviews the three important trees in the history of our faith. The Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden which became a symbol of pride, disobedience, and ultimately death. Second, the burning bush where God spoke to Moses and asked him to lead his people out of Egypt. Finally the tree of the Cross, which reverses the sins of the first tree and gives life, hope, and victory.

September 7, Fr. Jerome’s Homily- Love is the Fulfillment of the Law

Fr. Jerome discusses St. Paul’s message to early Jewish converts about how he knew the law and that he previously thought that by following the letter of the law it would lead him to righteousness. But after Jesus’ resurrection he discovered that that love is the fulfillment of the law and we need to also understand what God was trying to accomplish through the Law.
