The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, the feast marks the end of the liturgical season of Christmas. Jesus’ baptism brings righteousness to us. The beginning of Christ’s public ministry, he sanctifies the waters so that baptism will cleanse us and we can enter into a right relationship with God.

Christ came so that great joy can come for all people. This first announcement came to the shepherds, a group of outsiders because of their occupation and often at odds with their peers. Yet, it is to this group that God reveals himself first.
