The disciples in today's Gospel wanted special favors from Jesus, but granting places of honor was not what Jesus had in mind. He wants us to be in a posture of humility and service.

In today's Gospel the young man approaches Jesus and asked what more shall he do, he already follows God's commandments. Jesus replies to sell all of his belongings and follow him. The task seems impossible to the man, for he is wealthy and has many possessions. It seems the man is owned by his material items.

We must program our lives, and our children's lives, for virtue and love of God rather than the things of this world that distract us from that love.
